Two weeks ago, I wrote about recent news that the World Health Organization had added “burn-out” to the International Classification of Diseases. I also spoke of a webinar I recently participated in with Dr. Jeffrey Pfeffer, Stanford professor and author of Dying for a Paycheck, hosted by Vitality, a wellness program provider with which Barry-Wehmiller partners.
Because the discussion about wellness and the workplace is so important, on this week’s Everybody Matters Podcast, we’d like to present an edited version of that webinar. There are many reasons why Dr. Pfeffer says that the workplace is the fifth leading cause of death in the United States. On this podcast, you’ll hear him talk about why he and I believe that is the case and how caring leadership can be the answer to this epidemic of anguish.
