A landmark event in Barry-Wehmiller’s history took place this week. On Monday, for the first time in almost 30 years, we introduced a brand new logo.  The new look is designed to send the message that Barry-Wehmiller has evolved. No longer a US-based-manufacturer, we’ve grown into a global organization comprised of more than 60 acquired companies representing an ever-expanding product line and hundreds of brands. We have 8,000-plus team members spread among 100 locations around the world. And our culture has evolved significantly too.

During the challenging times of the 80s, Barry-Wehmiller had a typical numbers-oriented leadership vision focused on profits and shareholder value.  Today, through our people-centric initiatives and commitment to Truly Human Leadership, we have nurtured a caring culture based upon trust and collaboration that has created a sense of altruism — doing things for others without expecting anything in return. Our goal is to send our team members home safe, well and fulfilled. Clearly, the Barry-Wehmiller of today is a vast departure from the Barry-Wehmiller of thirty years ago. So when our Communications Team recommended it was time for a new look, I wholeheartedly agreed.

The most noteworthy change to our new logo, however, is the statement that runs underneath: Building a Better World Through Business. Over the years, we‘ve used several taglines to talk about ourselves; most often “We Build Great People Who Do Extraordinary Things,” sometimes “We Measure Success By the Way We Touch the Lives of People”, and more recently “Building Great People is Our Business.” They were written to convey the organization’s strong commitment to improving the lives of our team members through the course of our business.

What we’ve discovered along the way is that the positive impact of Truly Human Leadership goes far beyond our team members.

Story after story from team members reveal that the personal growth they experience through meaningful work and the training they receive through Barry-Wehmiller University improves their marriages, enhances their parenting, enriches their friendships, makes them better neighbors, causes them to want to volunteer in their communities more often, and so on. In other words, when our team members feel fulfilled by their time with us, they go home and leave a positive impact on the lives of those in their own corner of the universe. Better me, better we, better world!

The ripple effect of Truly Human Leadership is far-reaching. Thought leader and bestselling author Simon Sinek once told me that we’d be selfish if we didn’t share what we have learned outside the walls of Barry-Wehmiller. We are working on that. Our new declaration about the impact of our business is an important step in getting other business leaders to take notice of what is possible.

We invite you to explore our new website to see all the ways Barry-Wehmiller is building a better world. Please let us know what you think.
